emril.jpgThe Philadelphia Iggles need offensive and defensive power to avoid being the Philadelphia Giggles, again. One or two ingredients short of a recipe for success, the Philadelphia Eagles must choose wisely how much to spice up their hardly palatable offense and overly cooked defense. A pinch of this and a touch of that (especially with the NFL draft on the horizon) can turn this decent dish into delectable gourmet with potential playoff staying-power that has been missing in recent years. Phone up Emeril, Martha, and all of the Iron Chef’s you know-today on hotstovephilly.com, the ingredients of Philadelphia Super Bowl Surprise will be discussed with our win-hungry readers.

Head Coach and Chef Andy Reid probably misses T.O. Not for his brash locker room behavior nor his on or off the field antics, not hardly. Mr. Owens is missed because his offensive prowess was so keen that it changed games just by him stepping on the field as a distraction to defenses, not only as one of the best wide-receivers in the game. Poor Donovan and Brian are only two players, and until the NFL starts playing two on two touch football games, both will not be enough by themselves to overwhelm even the most generous defenses. The Eagles must now add a wide receiver or two to their long grocery list if they are to compete for playoff position this coming year. Another shopping spree must be made eventually, searching for even more ingredients that can help a turn a Super Bowl Cookout into reality.

Two delectable wide receiver dishes should certainly be on The Eagles Menu if they hope to eventually invite Vince Lombardi and that trophy of his to a celebratory February dinner. The first entrée hails from our neighbor state of Indiana. The receiver is built with the height of a basketball power forward, super sonic speed, and possesses hand’s which must naturally secrete glue. James Hardy, the super-freak of a receiver could become a deep threat or a possession receiver. Hardy’s physique alone places him almost literally head and shoulders above the receiving competition. The numbers don’t lie and whether a fan chooses to admire the player’s 6-7 frame or 79 receptions last year for an up and coming Indiana University program both stats should have fan’s licking their chops. This player has the potential to satisfy even the “hardyist” of football appetites.

As insatiable appetites often go, one course is simply not enough. Many Eagles fan’s often like something a little sweet after a tasty meal. How about munchin’ on something Sweed then? Limas Sweed, The Texas Longhorn’s Wide Receiver has moves as sweet as sugar and hands like pie mitts. Sweed is the highest recruited receiver from the great state of Texas and rarely does this football powerhouse of a locale disappoint.

Would he complement an Eagles offense like a fine desert cognac? I think so. Hell, in terms of wide receiver personnel, The Eagles are starving, let’s put something on their plate to eat-who cares if it’s dessert first!

Potential offensive treats abound in this year’s NFL draft. However, wide-receiver is only one position of many which the Philadelphia Eagles need to swallow their pride and commit to. A football team can and should divided into equal sections (imagine a pizza). Toppings can add or detract from a delicious and hot slice of crusty heaven, but are decided upon by the person (or coach) who orders. The most important things which encompass your typical pizza pie are the most basic and necessary ingredients which all pizza has in some way, shape, or form-Dough, Cheese, and Sauce. The Philadelphia Eagle’s Pizza might be ready for the playoff oven eventually; now we’re just missing the Sauce!
