This afternoon Martin Biron posted his second consecutive shutout as the Flyers finished the regular season on a high note, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0.  Biron had 20 saves and Mike Knuble led the offense with a goal and an assist.

Even though the Flyers clinched the playoffs on Friday night today’s outcome did matter as it finalized what seed the Flyers would be in for the playoffs.  Had the Flyers lost, they would have finished in the eighth seed, and had to face the Penguins in a best-of-seven series.  With the victory, the Flyers moved into the sixth position and drew a more favorable match up against the third seed Washington Capitals.

The Capitals finished the season with 94 points.  Although they finished with less points then the Flyers (94 to the Flyers 95), the Capitals won the Southeast Division, guaranteeing them a top three seed.

Just because the Capitals finished with less points then the Flyers doesn’t mean they’re going to laydown and let the Flyers advance to the next round.  Led …

Anytime Adam Eaton takes the mound Phillies fans expect the same results.  He’s going to give up a ton of hits, walk a fair share of hitters, give up runs early, and the Phillies will be playing catchup the entire game.  His stats from last season (6.29 ERA and 1.64 WHIP - worst among all MLB starters), exemplified this.  Amazingly he won 10 games last season, but the responsible party was the Phillies offense, not a dominant Eaton.

Phillies fans have such a distaste for Eaton, that when he’s scheduled to start, it’s already chalked up as an automatic loss.  Yesterday was no different, but there was something different about Eaton.

No goatee…

Even though Eaton decided to change his facial hair expectations weren’t any different yesterday as he made his season debut.  He struggled all spring, dealt with an aching back, and knew he wasn’t guaranteed a spot on the roster.  Fortunately for him Travis Blackley or Francisco Rosario were unable to claim the fifth spot in the rotation.

    • “We had a feeling that we were going to win it. Unfortunately it took 13 innings for us to do it,” said Coste, who came into the game in the eighth inning and still went 4-for-4 with a double. "It was definitely exciting. It probably felt like the Little League World Series players. You forget that you get paid to play the game. It's almost like we felt like little kids with the excitement in kind of playoff-type atmosphere, which is pretty normal when we play the Mets."
