The bitter divorce between the Philadelphia Eagles and wide receiver Terrell Owens is back in the news once again. The Eagles filed suit against their former star wideout with the U.S. District Court in Philadelphia on Monday, claiming that TO still owes the team almost $770,000 after an arbiter ruled in January that the Eagles were entitled to approximately $1.7 million in bonus money paid to Owens when he joined the Eagles. Drew Rosenhaus, Owens’ agent, declined to comment on the matter, a rarity for both agent and player.

In case you forgot, Owens was suspended by the Eagles for conduct detrimental to the team midway through to.jpgthe 2005 season. Owens had demanded a new contract one year into his seven-year deal worth almost $49 million and went on to publicly criticize the organization and star quarterback Donovan McNabb. The Eagles withheld his final five paychecks, which totaled approximately $965,000 and cut him after the season was over. The Eagles contend the remaining $770,000 of the initial $1.7 million is still owed to them.

Most likely the reason Owens has yet to pay the Eagles back is that he cannot afford it. His three year, $25 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys is certainly a paltry sum, inadequate for the lifestyle of one so noble as TO. My real question is, in addition to the $770,000, are the Eagles, the fans, and the city of Philadelphia eligible for monetary compensation for the pain and damages that TO continues to inflict upon us?
