On Wednesday it was reported the Flyers were looking for a defenseman, and Andrej Meszakoswas the player at the top of their list.  Well yesterday the Flyers traded for a defenseman, but it wasn’t Meszakos.  The Flyers sent forward Ryan Potulny to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Danny Syvret.

Syvret is twenty-two and only has 26 NHL games under his belt (with one career point), and he last played in the 2006-2007 season.  He’s known for his defensive prowess, and ability to move the puck up the ice.

Potulny played seven games for the Flyers this season recording only one point, but had a strong season for the Phantoms recording 47 points (21 goals, 26 assists) in 58 games.

This move was made for depth.  The Flyers have more young forwards then defenseman, ad they need to balance it out.  Syvret will get an opportunity to contribute, but he’s far from the impact defenseman the Flyers are looking for.
