Lookout Atlanta, here comes Jayson Werth.
The Phillies have activated the outfielder from the disabled list and is available to play this evening. Werth strained his oblique on May 22nd against the Astros and hasn’t played since. It’s excellent timing for Werth’s return since tonight’s starter for the Braves, Jo-Jo Reyes, is left handed. Werth is hitting .309 with 6 home runs and 17 RBI’s against lefthanders this season.
To make room for Werth the Phillies have outrighted Chris Snelling to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Snelling has three days to accept the assignment or opt for free agency. Snelling has seen minimal action for the Phillies this season, primarily because he spent most of it on the disabled list. His two hits on the season were critical. A ninth inning home run against the Astros, which tied the game and last night’s double to lead off the 10th inning.
I’d like to see Snelling stick around,. so hopefully he’ll his assignment. If there’s any injuries to the outfield, he’ll be the first player recalled.
