When the Phils step into the batters box this afternoon to look to put the finishing touches on a sweep of the Braves they won’t have to worry about their third baseman using his bat to send the Phils to Florida on a low note.
Chipper Jones will sit out today’s game with a small tear in his quad muscle. Jones originally tore the muscle on April 9th, but after sitting a week he was able to play through it. Last night, while running out a ground ball in the seventh, he re-aggrivated his quad, causing a small tear.
Jones is arguably the best hitter in baseball this season, so this obviously is a big hit for the Braves. For their sake he can’t miss much time. At least Phillies fans won’t have to cringe every time he steps in the batters box this afternoon.
Phils go for the sweep at 1:30 nationally on TBS and locally on CW9. Adam Eaton takes the mound for the Phils and rookie Jorge Campillo will start for the Braves.
