Tom Gordon has yet to see any action since his implosion Wednesday night in Florida, and the next time you see him he might not be paving the way for Brad Lidge.

We still love you Flash, but it might be time to take a rest.  Apparently Charlie Manuel agrees.

Manuel announced yesterday that Gordon will be taking a break from the set up role.

“It’s nothing about his stuff or his arm,” Manuel said before Friday night’s game at Busch Stadium. “It’s just that we’re at a point, a month before the All-Star break, where we better start monitoring him. I don’t want to overuse him.”

This obviously doesn’t mean we’ll never see Gordon with the game on the line, but Ryan Madson and Chad Durbin will see some more action setting up while Gordon gets some rest.

Spin this anyway you want it, but I really like this move.  If Manuel’s saying it’s just to save him for the rest of season and it has …

Selena Spice … Phillies Fan

Warning: Potentially NSFW

After today’s Phillies loss you probably need a bit of a pick me up. Uh, this should do the trick – video of Selena Spice wearing a Phillies t-shirt … briefly. I have no idea how old this is, but she is wearing a Jim Thome shirt. Clearly it should be an Utley shirt since that’s what I see all the hot chicks wearing.

After doing some, ahem, “research” it turns out this girl is a bit of an internet legend. She also seems to go by the name Andrea Rincon sometimes as well. Yes, shockingly enough, her real name isn’t Selena Spice. Anyway, according to Chickipedia (yes, Wikipedia for chicks), Spice/Rincon is 21 and from Columbia. Muy Bueno!

Now we just need to find out if she can get out of the first inning without giving up any runs, since Adam Eaton can’t.

As the Phillies take on the Cardinals in game two of their series, we’ll get a chance to see what might have been if the Phils had signed Kyle Lohse during the off season. Although Brett Myers and Adam Eaton have looked better in the last couple of starts, Lohse and his 7-2 record this season would have looked really nice in a Phillies uniform. But would he have been worth $21 million? Uhhh, probably not.

Lohse confirmed in Jim Salisbury’s column today that the Phillies offered him a 3-year $21 million contract shortly after the end of last season, but Phillies assistant GM Ruben Amaro says Lohse and his agent Scott Boras (who doesn’t he represent?) had no interest. But Amaro also says they continued discussion until January before finally pulling the offer off the table. And why did they pull the offer? Because they signed Pedro Feliz and Geoff Jenkins.

“Their expectations were different from ours,” said Amaro. “We ended up signing [Pedro] Feliz and [Geoff] …

Has Major League Baseball Commissioner Alan “Bud” Selig finally seen the light? According to an Associated Press article by AP Baseball Writer Ben Walker, MLB executive vice president for baseball operations Jimmie Lee Solomon is pushing to get instant replay instituted by August 1st and has found a receptive audience in the once staunchly opposed Selig.

The baseball world has been calling for Selig to institute instant replay over the past couple years, with the calls turning into shouts this season after a rash of blown home run calls, including one during a Phillies game that cost the Phils a win.

The idea is that by instituting instant replay for home runs by August 1st, it would give the league enough time to fine tune it in time for the playoffs. According to Walker,

MLB and the umpires’ union need to reach agreement before replay can be tried, and the sides have started talking. Previously, it was thought replay would get its first look in the Arizona Fall …

The Eagles announced Friday several roster moves, including signing defensive tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen to a one-year deal. Von oelhoffen played in eight games for the Eagles in 2007.

The Eagles also signed a couple draft picks, including sixth-round draft picks Mike Gibson and Andy Studebaker to four year deals. Last year Gibson played guard for California and Studebaker played linebacker for Wheaton College, a Division III school.

In addition to the three signings, the Eagles waived nine players to clear up some roster space: LB Gary Butler, DT Jeremy Clark, CB Tanard Davis, WR Terrell Golden, QB Casey Hansen, DE Xzavie Jackson, DT LaJuan Ramsey, DE A.J. Schable, and LB Markell Staffieri.

    • "Personally, from my experience, it's not fun. It's a frustrating thing, especially for a guy who runs, who needs his legs, who needs his speed. Hopefully, it's not as bad as mine.''
