In Donovan McNabb’s nine years as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, he’s definately gotten use to the local media and the microscope they put him under.  The former Pro-Bowl quarterback has had his ups and downs in Philadelphia, but after the attention he’s received over his latest injury, he’s had enough of the talk

“I do think it gets blown way out of proportion. With the injury, if you don’t say anything, then people think it’s bigger than what it is and if you do say something, some people still think you’re hiding something. It’s a no-win situation and I’ve been part of them for a long time. I’ve heard people say, ‘Donovan is fat,’ I’m out of shape and I’m too big. I just don’t get caught up in it…The shoulder is just tight. We did the right thing by making sure we were cautious with it and continuing to stretch and rehab. Everything is fine now.”

It’s good to hear Donovan’s shoulder is feeling better.  I’m sure hearing rumblings about Kevin Kolb getting a shot at the job has to bother him some, but it’s no different then the past couple years of trade rumors.  If the over-speculation bothers him, he needs to get over it.

There’s good reason for over-speculation.  As a city, Philadelphia is starving for a championship.  While cities like New York and Boston seem to have annual championship celebrations, Philadelphia sits in their shadow.  Not since 1983, when the 76er’s won the NBA Championship have we seen a celebration  parade down Broad Street.  While other local sports have taken a step in the right direction, the Eagles have sputtered.

It’s time for the Eagles to quit playing medicore football and right the ship.  By right the ship I mean a Superbowl victory.  If the Giants taught us anything last year it’s that the most talented team doesn’t always win the Superbowl.  It’s the team that stays healthy, and gels as a team.

For the Eagles to right the ship, it starts with a healthy McNabb.  McNabb doesn’t exactly have a history of being a rock behind center.  Since taking over as the first string quarterback in 2000, he’s only had four seasons where he didn’t miss a game; the last one coming in 2003.  If McNabb isn’t healthy, then the Eagles need to make proper adjustments now.

Keep ignoring the media Donovan but man up.  If you show up on the field ready to play, no one is going to have anything to say.

    • “We had a feeling that we were going to win it. Unfortunately it took 13 innings for us to do it,” said Coste, who came into the game in the eighth inning and still went 4-for-4 with a double. "It was definitely exciting. It probably felt like the Little League World Series players. You forget that you get paid to play the game. It's almost like we felt like little kids with the excitement in kind of playoff-type atmosphere, which is pretty normal when we play the Mets."
