Dear Phillies,
Please win the World Series.
I’m not asking for the normal reasons, like the fact that the city of Philadelphia hasn’t won a title in 25 years or because the team has worked so hard this year and deserves a title. No, I don’t care about any of that (well I do, but not for the purposes of this letter).
I want you to win simply so your fans, the often ridiculed, always beleagured Phillies faithful, can rub it in the faces of all those obnoxious Mets fans that we are forced to put up with all season long.
There would be nothing better than being able to go to the new Citi Field wearing World Series Champion shirts and caps and stare down all those ugly Orange and Blue clad jerks that make their way down the New Jersey Turnpike eight times a year to Philly and spew their obnoxious garbage.
They come to Philly and yell at fans and players and then act like we are these mean, awful fans. Screw you Mets fans!
Where are they this year? Sitting at home pouting that their team collapsed, again. They’re weeping that their team renewed the contract of GM Omar Minaya and he is showing his thanks by shopping Carlos Beltran.
They’re sitting at home lamenting the fact that the Phillies, yet again, kicked their team’s butt in September and won the National League East Division. They’re pissed that the Phillies won the National League Pennant.
They’re pissed that their team sucks; that they lack character; they lack leadership; they lack class.
They’re pissed that they’re stuck being a Mets fan. Don’t worry, I am not without sympathy. I pity that they are stuck being the worst fans in sports, they can’t help it. I pity them that they are a fan of a second class team, even in their own city. I feel bad that their team’s colors are disgusting and that they play in Queens.
That being said, Phillies, I still want you to win so we can brag and gloat and rub it in and be totally without class (like the Mets fans) because that is exactly what their fans deserve. So please, Phillies, please, win one for Jo-Rey, so when he does his dance around the bases next time, we can tell him to screw off, because we are champions, and he is a schmuck.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Atwood

All I can say, without inflaming fisticuffs, is that I’m incredulous. This is what passes for fandom in Philadelphia? Just, wow. I can’t wait to see what the Red Sox do with this team.
Now Mets fans will say the Phils are obsessed with them and will take it as a badge of honor. That we should be focused on the AL team.
They can’t multitask in Queens.
Whatever, they’re reduced to rooting for someone else to do what they can’t-beat the Phils when it counts the most.
You’re right. The focus this week should be on the Mets. How could I be so blind? And look at Jose Reyes: he’s the star of the 2008 postseason and he’s not even playing. What a superstar.
Gozer,
Aren’t you getting the cart before the horse? Let the Red Sox get through Tampa before you start rooting for them against the Phillies.
It’s nice to see the Mets Sox fans still live…
Can’t wait to see what the Rays do with this team;-)
How about those Mets?
