New York Giants’ widereceiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg with a handgun while out in a New York City nightclub Friday night.The wound is reportedly not life-threatening.
Burress, who has already been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins with a hamstring injury, will most likely miss the Week 14 matchup against the Eagles.
While details of the incident are still sketchy, there has been speculation that Burress has not been satisfied with the impact he has had on the team as an off-the-field distraction this season, believing he has yet to live up to his full potential.

Burress’ erratic antics already cost him $204,000 in fines this year. He was suspended for one game after going AWOL and benched for the first quarter of another game after skipping medical treatment.

Despite being considered a top-contender to make the NBA Finals coming into this off-season, the 76ers are a dissapointing 7-9 after suffering their third straight loss on Friday night, a 102-78 thumping at the hands of the Boston Celtics.
The Sixers were down by as many as 30 points at one point. While no one expected them to be better than the defending champions, they were expected to at least compete.
Coach Maurice Cheeks said he made sure to leave a lasting message with his struggling team.
“Yeah, I left one,” Cheeks said during his post-game press conference after taking about 5 minutes longer than usual to meet with reporters. “I left it with them.”
When asked whether it was a stronger, more definitive message then the one he delivered earlier this season, Cheeks responded with a less than definitive yes.

Eagles’ guard Max Jean-Gilles, playing in place of the injured Shawn Andrews, broke his right ankle right before half-time during Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Arizona Cardinals.
With 12-seconds left in the half, Jean-Gilles was blocking as quarterback Donovan McNabb was scrambling around. Cardinals’ linebacker Chike Okeafor tried to dive for McNabb’s leggs but caught Jean-Gilles right leg instead, bending it backwards.
Tears streamed down the face of Jean-Gilles as he was carted off the field. Eagles’ coach Andy Reid said that the injury would require surgery, but that no timetable has been set as of yet. It is a similar injury to one suffered by Andrews at the beginning of the 2004 season. Andrews broke his fibula and had season-ending surgery.

On the set of the NFL Network’s postgame show after the Eagles Thanksgiving victory over the Arizona Cardinals, former Cowboy Deion Sanders showed that he is still an idiot.
Many fans stayed after the game and chanted for Donovan McNabb as he joined the postgame cast, which apparently annoyed Neon Deion.
“Can I tell them something for you?” he said. “First of all, I would like to tell all these idiotic fans to shut-up. Don’t get on his bandwagon now. You’re the same guys who booed him on his first incompletion.”

The Phillies announced Friday the signing of South Philly native Mike Koplove, a veteran righthanded reliever, to a minor league contract.
The signing is seen as more of an insurance move than adding a serious guy to the 25-man roster. Koplove, a graduate of Chestnut Hill Academy, has not seen consistent time in the majors since 2005 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. That season he had an ERA of 5.07 in 44 appearances.
It will be tough for him to make the roster. The Phillies already have a pretty well cemented bullpen with closer Brad Lidge, Ryan Madson, J.C. Romero, Chad Durbin, and Scott Eyre. Clay Condrey is arbitration eligible, but will most likely be back. If the Phillies make no more bullpen moves, then there should be room for Koplove, but if they pursue one or two more guys like Juan Cruz or David Weathers, which they are expected to do, then he will probably start the year in Triple A-Lehigh Valley. The Flyers ended their six-game winning streak on Friday with a loss in an overtime matinee against the Carolina Hurricanes. Sergei Samsonov scored with 1:07 left in the extra period to put the ‘Canes up 3-2.
“You try to get as much speed as you can to avoid the pokecheck,” Samsonov said of his winning goal. “Once I got to the net, I had more room than I thought, so I just tried to squeeze one by.”
Samsonov used his incredible speed to fly down to the goalmouth and put a forehand shot against the still reeling Martin Biron. The win ended another streak, a three-game losing streak by Carolina. The goal caught the Flyers’ netminder off-guard.
“I thought that he was going to go around me to the glove side a little further out, but he made a quick shot right away,” the goaltender said.
