I totally agree with Jay. There is no reason for Avery to be suspended for calling the his ex sloppy seconds. It's funny and I like Avery. If not for him I would have totally forgotten about the NHL existing.

Gary Bettman is a total joke. When players are getting suspended at length for dirty hits and for stick fouls, suspending a player for making comments that weren't offensive or "detrimental" is ridiculous. Everyone knows Sean Avery stirs the pot. He's the type of player you hate, but if he's on your team you love him. For him to be suspended pending a hearing for those comments is absurd.

Given the NHL doesn't have a major TV contract (VS really can't count), and has struggling attendance in some markets, maybe Bettman needs to get his priorities in order before he runs his league into the ground.

If anything, Bettman should like Avery. He's GOOD for the NHL. He's an obnoxious jerk who doesn't mind stirring the pot. A majority of the US population loves celebrity dirt and gossip. Why else would TMZ and US Weekly be so popular. By Avery making comments about a Flames defenseman and his girlfriend, it gives people a reason to care (outside of Calgary & Dallas), about a Flames/Stars games because people want to see if there will be any type of retaliation.

Bettman continues to prove why he is the worst commissioner in all of sports.
