According to Carrie Muskat from MLBlogs.com, the Chicago Cubs have pulled infielder Mark DeRosa
off the table as a possible piece in any trade.
Despite the fact that DeRosa is believed to be a key component in any trade that will allow the Cubs to bring pitcher Jake Peavy to Chicago from the San Diego, sources inside the Cubs are saying that he is staying put and will not be dealt.
This news comes amid reports that the Minnesota Twins have entered the fray as a possible third team to the Peavy deal. It is largely understood that in order for the Padres to deal their ace to Chicago, another team will have to be involved because the Cubs just do not have the prospects needed to get the deal done. The Phillies were seen as early contenders to be the crucial third team, as the Padres have expressed serious interest in J.A. Happ.
The Cubs, Padres and Phillies are still reportedly in active talks, but, according to the Cubs’ source, there is no timetable. There is also no pressure on the Cubs to get something done as they currently have two big time starters already on their roster in Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden.
