Various media outlets reported Friday that veteran Eagles’ safety Brian Dawkins had signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos.

This appears, however, to have been a little hasty.

According to a story on the Philadelphia Inquirer’s website, the deal is not done, yet.

Dawkins was indeed in Denver yesterday, meeting with the team, and then he attended a Nuggets basketball game.

In addition to the story by the San Francisco Chronicle that Dawkins had signed, there was a report out of Denver that he might resume negotiations with the Eagles.

According to the Inquirer story, the Eagles did not want to give him more than a one year deal, so Dawkins decided to test free agency. They are reportedly still monitoring his situation very closely however.

Dawkins is the Eagles’ all-time leader in games played (183) and is tied for the lead with 34 interceptions. He has played his entire career (13 seasons) and has expressed a serious interest in finishing his career in Philly. He also wants to play for at least two more …

The Phillies have released beleaguered pitcher Adam Eaton, a year before his three year, way too much money deal was set to expire.

The move comes as no surprise, as the Phillies have been trying to move Eaton all off-season to a team in exchange for assuming a portion of his $8.5 million salary. It was obvious, however, that Eaton was not going to pitch for the Phillies this season, and they were unable to find any takers.

In a little less than two full season with the big league club, Eaton went 14-18 with a 6.10 ERA in 51 games, 49 of them starts.

It appears that Jon Runyan’s nine-year career with the Eagles has come to a close, as the team announced the signing of Shawn Andrews’ brother Stacy Andrews.

The deal is contingent upon Andrews passing a physical.

Andrews was franchised by the Cincinnati Bengals last year, but tore both his ACL and his MCL in December. He underwent reconstructive knee surgery on Jan. 7.

Andrews is only 27, whereas Runyan is in his late 30′s.

Running back Correll Buckhalter is expected to sign with the Denver Broncos today; Atlanta has reportedly expressed interest in tightend L.J. Smith; Sean Considine is visiting with Jacksonville today.

Free agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who has repeatedly expressed strong interest in signing with the Eagles, is reportedly flying out to visit with the Seattle Seahawks.

We will continue to update you throughout the day.

The Phillies dropped their second game of the 2009 Grapefruit League schedule, losing to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2, but Spring Training baseball isn’t about wins and losses.  In the early going, it’s more about established players getting ready for the season, and fringe players looking to prove themselves, to either win a position battle or roster spot.

While some fans get real excited when their favorite team looks like the team to beat when they have a strong spring campaign (Pirates fans hae to cheer sometime), in reality Spring Training is full of Good, Bad, and Ugly.

The Good:

- Rookie Carlos Carrasco threw two innings of no-hit baseball, while picking up three strikeouts.

- J.A. Happ also threw two-shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out one.

- Gary Majewski, looking to earn a spot in the bullpen, pitched two innings of no-hit baseball.  Majewski walked none and struck out two.

- Jimmy Rollins and John Mayberry Jr. both went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

- Yorman Bazardo pitched a …

Free agency is almost underway in the NFL, and Philadelphia wouldn’t be the same without some kind of off-season conflict. The seeds of this year’s story were sewn during the playoffs, when Donovan McNabb made his desire for a new contract known. About 10 pounds of Miracle-Gro and fertilizer were dumped on those fledgling seeds earlier this week, when many media circles reported that McNabb met with the Eagles’ front office to discuss what off-season moves they were going to make before he commits the remainder of his NFL career to Philadelphia. Essentially, he gave them an ultimatum. Gutsy? Yeah, but I respect the move. It was headstrong effort to lobby for the offensive weapons he has been long-seeking, an effort from a player whom many have labeled a company man. McNabb is yearning for a true number 1 receiver, so that he and the Eagles can experience the same offensive success they enjoyed in 2004, when they acquired T.O. McNabb racked up his best season statistically, and guided …

In their first organized game since winning the World Series, the Phillies lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-2 in Grapefruit League play.

The ageless Jamie Moyer started the game, pitching two innings with one hit and two strikeouts. Joe Blanton got in an inning of work in which he allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts of his own.

The real damage came in the fourth and fifth innings when Joe Bisenius allowed four runs on two hits and Scott Nestor allowed three runs on three hits, respectively. Each pitcher allowed two walks apiece.

South Philly native Mike Koplove, vying for a spot in the bullpen, pitched a scoreless eight with two strikeouts.

Chris Coste, Ronny Paulino, and Lou Marson, three guys vying to be Carlos Ruiz’s backup at catcher, went a combined 0-3. Marcus Giles, who is hoping to make the roster as a right handed bat off the bench, went 0-2 with two strikeouts.

Raul Ibanez, in his first organized game as a member of the Phillies, …

Yesterday the official rosters for the World Baseball Classic were announced and there’s no shortage of Phillies.  Jimmy Rollins (USA), Matt Stairs (Canada), Carlos Ruiz (Panama), J.C. Romero (Puerto Rico), Drew Naylor, Joel Haughton, and Brad Harman (Austrailia) will all take the field for their respective countries as 16 teams battle it out of what is baseball’s equivalent of the World Cup.

Rollins is obviously the biggest Phillie chosen to play and although he’s a backup shortstop, he might see expanded time with the Yankees Derek Jeter dealing with a nagging hamstring.

While outside of Rollins it’s not the cream of the crop in Philadelphia, but it’s not by the WBC’s choice.  Ryan Howard (focusing on the season), Cole Hamels (resting his arm), and Brad Lidge (birth of child), all declined invitations, and Chase Utley was unavailable due to recovery from hip surgery.

One name that I’m surprised not to see, but glad he’s not playing is Ronny Paulino.  Paulino expressed interest in playing for the Dominican Republic, but …

It’s been over three months since we’ve seen the Phillies take the field, but tomorrow, they open their Grapefruit League schedule in Bradenton, taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Here’s the lineup:

1 – Jimmy Rollins, SS
2 – Shane Victorino, CF
3 – Raul Ibanez, LF
4 – Ryan Howard, 1B
5 – Geoff Jenkins, RF
6 – Matt Stairs, DH
7 – Jason Donald, 2B
8 – Eric Bruntlett, 3B
9 – Chris Coste, C

Seeing Bruntlett starting at third is interesting.  With Pedro Feliz still not fully recovered from back surgery, Bruntleyy might be the guy with the early inside track starting in his place, although Greg Dobbs is the likely option.  Aside from that, Jason Donald is another player to monitor as he’s in the running to sub at third and possibly second should Chase Utley not be ready for Opening Day.  The player I’m interested to see will be coming off the bench, is Marcus Giles.  Although out of baseball for a year after a disappointing season, he has the tool and …

Being the league’s best bullpen tends to have it’s advantage…

The Phillies bullpen will be featured in baseball’s first-ever reality show.  The fledgling MLB Network is currently filming the Phillies in Clearwater, recording the debut episode of The Pen, an inside look at the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen.  The show debuts on June 1st and run weekly the following six weeks, giving fans the inner working of a major league bullpen.

Oh, and it’ll also highlight some of the Phillies bullpen personalities.  But don’t worry, the fame should go to anyone’s head.

“I ain’t no star, but it will be interesting to see the finished product.”  – Clay Condrey

This is an interesting idea MLB Network has come up with.  Aside from the fact what we’ll hear about the J.C. Romero suspension, for years we’ve all heard players talk about the antics in the bullpen, and they things they do to pass time.  Now we’ll all get a chance to see it front and center.

Despite making several inquiries regarding interest in a couple of their players, the Sixers ultimately did not make any moves at the NBA trading deadline.

The Sixers made two confirmed phone calls to the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Hornets regarding center Samuel Dalembert, and there was the possibility that they were going to move point guard Andre Miller, who is a free agent at the end of this season.

There was also a rumor that the Sixers and Portland Trailblazers were in discussions about a trade that reportedly included Reggie Evans on the Sixers end and point guard Jerryd Bayless from the Blazers.

According to Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers have confirmed that they did not make any last minute deals.

That means that the team that was the hottest in the league coming into the NBA All Star break, and has lost the first two games coming out of the break, will be the same team that will have to …

The Philadelphia KiXX announced today that the team will hold a live post-game auction of all the team’s game-worn uniforms after the club’s contest versus the Rockford Rampage on Saturday, February 21.  All proceeds from the auction will benefit The Children’s Miracle Network at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  Game-time is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET with the doors opening at 6:00 pm ET.

“We are thrilled to partner with the KiXX for this fund-raiser,” stated Robin Valentino, Director, Children’s Miracle Network at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  “The team’s commitment to helping hospitalized kids is heartwarming.”

In addition to the uniform from each KiXX player, the auction will include various sports memorabilia and cultural attractions including a Philadelphia Experience Package that includes complimentary dinner, tickets to a sporting/cultural event, and hotel reservation.  The items will first be available through a silent …
