After battling with a shoulder injury for close to two months, Elton Brand is slated to have season ending surgery on Monday.
Brand dislocated his shoulder after landing on it awkwardly in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on December 17th. The injury forced Brand to miss 16 games and play in a limited capacity for six games since his return.
Brand was lured away from the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason with a lucrative 5-year, $80 million contract and came to Philly with a lot of fanfare. He has so far failed to live up to the high expectations that accompanied his trip over from the West Coast, largely due to trouble adjusting to the Sixers run-and-gun style of play.
That has led many to speculate whether Brand’s signing was worth the money and whether he is a good fit for the team. I’m not going to rehash all that here, but either way, losing a 20/10 guy who is making around $14 million this year for the rest of the season hurts.
