Various media outlets reported Friday that veteran Eagles’ safety Brian Dawkins had signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos.
This appears, however, to have been a little hasty.
According to a story on the Philadelphia Inquirer’s website, the deal is not done, yet.
Dawkins was indeed in Denver yesterday, meeting with the team, and then he attended a Nuggets basketball game.
In addition to the story by the San Francisco Chronicle that Dawkins had signed, there was a report out of Denver that he might resume negotiations with the Eagles.
According to the Inquirer story, the Eagles did not want to give him more than a one year deal, so Dawkins decided to test free agency. They are reportedly still monitoring his situation very closely however.
Dawkins is the Eagles’ all-time leader in games played (183) and is tied for the lead with 34 interceptions. He has played his entire career (13 seasons) and has expressed a serious interest in finishing his career in Philly. He also wants to play for at least two more …
