Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel announced Tuesday night that Brett Myers will make his third straight Opening Day start this Sunday against the Atlanta Braves.
“The fact that we gave him the ball the last two years, the way he pitched here, it was a logical choice,” Manuel said.
Phillies’ ace Cole Hamels is slated to start the final Spring Training game of the season on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Citizen’s Bank Park. Hamels is still recovering from a sore left elbow and is slated to make his first start of the season on April 10 against the Colorado Rockies.
In addition to announcing his Opening Day starter, Manuel also laid out the final makeup of his starting rotation.
Jamie Moyer will start on April 7 against the Braves.
Joe Blanton will start on April 8 for the Ring Ceremony game.
Hamels will then start on Friday April 10 in Colorado. Myers will start on April 11.
