Phillies Rockies BaseballBrett Myers was good enough to keep the Phillies in the game, and the offense finally came to life as all eight position players registered at least one hit, as the Phillies moved to 2-3, topping the Rockies 8-4.

The Good:

- Ryan Howard had his first breakout game of the season going 2 for 4 with three RBI’s.  Howard’s third inning double with the bases gave the Phillies a 3-2 lead.

- Shane Victorino and Pedro Feliz led the Phillies with three hits (both went 3 for 5).  Victorino had a double and scored twice, while Feliz picked up an RBI.

- Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez each picked up two hits and an RBI.  Ibanez’s came on a seventh inning home run (his second of the season), while Utley’s came on a single in the eighth.

- The Phillies lineup showed it could get the hits in the big situation.  Seven of their eight runs came with two outs.  Since it’s the first time we’ve seen the Phillies come up with two-out hits this season, it’s more than encouraging.

- Ryan Madson continues to look dominant.  His fastball is clocked in the mid-90′s, and his changeup in the mid 80′s.  In his one inning of work, he kept the Rockies guessing, retiring all three batters he faced, picking up two strikeouts.

The Bad:

- Although the Phils did score eight runs, and came through in the clutch, they still left 12 men on base.  Ibanez grounded out twice with runners in scoring position (in the third and fifth), and Utley grounded out with the bases loaded in the sixth.  While they did put eight runs on the board, big scoring opportunities went by the wayside.

Phillies Rockies BaseballThe Ugly:

- Although Myers line for the night doesn’t look terrible (7IP, 4H, 4ER, 6K, 1BB), three of his four hits allowed were home runs.  In 13 innings this season Myers has already allowed six home runs.

- Through five games the Phillies has now allowed 12 home runs.

Chan Ho Park will make the start today (his first start of the season), as the Fightin’s look for their first series win of the season.  Opposing park will be Rockies Opening Day Starter Aaron Cook.  In his last start, Cook was pounded by the Diamondbacks, giving up six earned runs in two-and-a-third innings.
