Sixers’ General Manager Ed Stefanski said Wednesday that the team has made an offer to free agent point guard Andre Miller, but that the two sides are still far apart on a new contract.
“We have made an offer to Andre but they’re looking for a better offer from other places,” said Stefanski. “I’d say right now we’re in the mode of looking for a sign-and-trade that makes sense for both sides. … I’d say we’re far apart.”
When asked by the Philadelphia Daily News’ Sixers beat reporter Phil Jasner whether it was an issue of years or money, Stefanski replied indicated it was a mixture of both.
“To go long-term on a contract with an older point guard – we don’t see that as a viable option right now,” Stefanski said.
Miller is reportedly looking for a multi-year deal that would pay him at least the $10.3 million he made last season. According to Jasner, the Sixers were reportedly willing to give Miller a one-year deal worth $6 million, the mid-level exception.
“We’re disappointed by the lack of progress that has been made thus far,” Miller’s agent Andy Miller told the Daily News. “We’re confident that Andre’s value and production are well thought of throughout the league.”
According to Stefanski, Andy Miller is currently “canvassing the league” for possible sign-and-trade opportunities.
In 82 games last year, Miller averaged 16.3 points, 6.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 36 minutes per game in leading the Sixers to their second straight playoff birth.
