After more than four days of ballot box stuffing and campaigning from the Pacific to the Atlantic, Shane Victorino has won the All Star Final Vote with a record 15.6 million votes.

VictorinoVictorino’s vote count blew away the previous record of 9.8 million votes, set last year for the Rays’ Evan Longoria.

Victorino battled San Francisco Giants’ third baseman Pablo Sandoval for the top spot for the duration of the vote. Sandoval led much of the way, up until Wednesday night. Then Victorino squeeked ahead, never to look back.

There were a record 68.6 million votes cast in total for all ten candidates.

The Tigers’ Brandon Inge beat out the Rangers’ Ian Kinsler for the last spot on the AL team. The Tigers and the Phillies teamed up to promote their respective players with the “Bran-Torino” coalition. The two teams joined forces on the second day of voting when it was announced that both Victorino and Inge were in second place in voting.

Victorino will now join Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, Ryan Howard and manager Charlie Manuel in St. Louis for the All-Star Game.
