Ryan Howard made history Thursday night at Land Shark Stadium in Fort Lauderdale as the fastest player to ever hit 200 homeruns.

Howard200The historic homerun was a solo shot to right center in the top of the sixth inning, putting the Phillies up 4-0 over the Florida Marlins.

It took Howard 658 games to hit 200 homeruns, which shattered the previous record. Ralph Kiner held the record with 703 games, almost 50 games longer than it took Howard. It was Howard’s 23 homerun of the season.

While Howard made the history, it was Raul Ibanez and Jamie Moyer who stole the show. Ibanez hit his 23 and 24 homeruns of the season, picking up where he left off before his stint on the disabled list. Moyer continued his dominance of the Marlins, throwing seven innings of one hit ball, remaining unbeaten in Florida. The Marlins’ lone hit came off a Jorge Cantu liner to left to lead off the fifth inning.

Ryan Madson and J.C. Romero each pitched a hitless inning in relief of Moyer. It was the first time since 1986 that the Phillies pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter. Moyer is now 13-2 all time against the Marlins.

The victory puts the Phillies five games up on the Marlins and is their sixth win in a row. They are now 6.5 games up on the Braves, who beat the Mets 5-3.
