A month after being traded by the Phillies to the Cleveland Indians, Carlos Carrasco will make his major league debut Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

carlos-carrasco1Carrasco came over with Jason Donald and Lou Marson in the deal that sent Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco to the Phillies.

After struggling in Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Carrasco found success with Class AAA Columbus. In six starts, he was 5-1 with a 3.19 ERA.

Carrasco was considered to be the Phillies’ top pitching prospect for much of the past few years, but saw his stock drop some after struggling in Triple-A this season. While he still remained the top pitching prospect by rating from Baseball America, most scouts around baseball believed that he was passed by Kyle Drabek.

Drabek was the key to a deal that would have sent Roy Halladay to Philly, but instead GM Ruben Amaro Jr. managed to send Carrasco, Donald and Marson, all highly valued prospects that lost some of their luster after struggles in Lehigh Valley, to Cleveland for the reigning Cy Young Award winner. In six starts with the Phillies, Lee is 5-1 with a 1.80 ERA.

Carrasco will make his debut against Edwin Jackson, who is 10-6 with a 2.96 ERA.
