Brett Myers pitched what is expected to be his final minor league rehab appearance Wednesday night for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
Thursday, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said that Myers would join the team Friday in Houston. This was later confirmed by GM Ruben Amaro Jr.
Manuel indicated that he would have to watch Myers pitch first before he decided what defined role to place him into.
“We know what he can do,” Manuel said.
Myers has been discussed as a possible replacement to struggling closer Brad Lidge, as he has pitched in the closing role at the major league level before. Myers notched his first career minor league save on Tuesday, preserving the IronPigs’ 3-2 victory over Pawtucket in a 19-pitch effort.
