What just happened? We’re in week two and we’re already making moves like an over anxious fantasy football team owner. Well Donovan McNabb’s ribs happened and it was the one thing that could foil Andy Reid’s intricate plans. Every team can have 53 people on the active roster and an eight person practice squad. The first person to fall victim to this rule was A.J. Feely, the Carolina Panthers newest back up quarterback. However the game of musical chairs that was played last night was a bit above and beyond.
First Donovan’s ribs make it highly unlikely he’ll be able to play, well, on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. This faced Andy with the threat of his second round pick from Houston, former Conference USA MVP, Kevin Kolb possibly playing while a game still mattered. When Andy was confronted with his biggest fear he sprung into action.

You already know what Baskett looks like so I went with his wife
First we needed an eligible back up quarterback who knew the system, enter Jeff Garcia. Now we need a way to get him on the sideline, exit Hank Baskett. On a personal note, I’ll miss him. He was the first in a tradition of no name Philadelphia Eagles rookies I’ve drafted in my Fantasy Football League. I cut him pretty quickly that year as well. Though like all greatly disappointing Eagles prospects I’m sure he’ll come back.
Now it seems that having to move Baskett prompted Reid to also tip his hand as to how he was going to get Michael Vick on the field thus deciding the fate of Shawn Andrews. He’ll go on IR for now, he’s been complaining of lower back problems since the season started. Though based on his Youtube.com posts as of late he’s in the same boat as Stephon Marbury as far as what might be bothering him. I guess there was no reason to wait since we didn’t have time to shop Baskett around and Andrew’s “back” wasn’t getting better anytime soon.
So what does this mean for you as the fan? Well an acceptable answer to,”Why are you watching Kendra Wilkinson’s reality show?” is not longer, “She’s married to Baskett, he plays for the Eagles.” Though owning a magazine she’s in still requires no explanation. We gain Carmella DeCesare, Garcia’s wife. Also, this whole swap gave me an excuse to post two Playboy model pictures in the same article. That’s a definite plus. If you like short Irishmen we’ve got the only one in the entire league, again. E.D.I.D can work on getting his Phelps on. Maybe he can even team up with Marbury.

DeCesare was so excited at the news she dawned her Eagles colors.
If you’re asking what does it mean for the casual football fan. Well if you’re in the Kolb camp, aka related to Kevin Kolb; realize that this team has little to no faith in your boy. Picking up Garcia is a play to give McNabb some room to breath. If towards the end of the week it looks like McNabb can play week three or four Garcia won’t see playing time, unless Kolb loses a leg, or is physically unable to go on and the game is still winnable. If he does the QB waters could get too cloudy. Three running backs: good. Three quarterbacks? Try to trade one to the Oakland Raiders? San Francisco 49ers? Tampa Bay Buccaneers? If Kolb looks good we could win, if Kolb looks bad things will get out of hand quickly and bringing in Garcia probably won’t be worth it, unless McNabb is going to miss a few weeks.
In short look for a few things on Sunday: Reid will sacrifice Kolb’s body and/or confidence for a good season. Garcia may try to sneak on the field to use this as a sales pitch to the litany of other former teams he has that have legitimately have no Quarterbacks. Also look for Carmella DeCesare to be gorgeous regardless of how the game turns out.
