Mecca in all its glory
Most of you reading this would agree that the Philadelphia Eagles are the greatest football team on the planet, ever. Unfortunately many people outside of the City of Brotherly Love have yet to learn this unquestionable truth. To that end some of us must go out amongst the heathens to teach them our West Coast Offensive ways. I’ve successfully survived outside of the Philly area for three years now. I thought it would be helpful to those of you who are planning on going out and spreading the word, or already find yourself far way from Mecca for me to give you some weekly advice based on my trials and tribulations as an Eagles fan wondering in the wilderness.

The first thing you need to do is know the schedule. Not just the weekly TV schedule the entire season schedule. Once it’s announced print that thing out! First of all, having a schedule …

What just happened? We’re in week two and we’re already making moves like an over anxious fantasy football team owner. Well Donovan McNabb’s ribs happened and it was the one thing that could foil Andy Reid’s intricate plans. Every team can have 53 people on the active roster and an eight person practice squad. The first person to fall victim to this rule was A.J. Feely, the Carolina Panthers newest back up quarterback.  However the game of musical chairs that was played last night was a bit above and beyond.

First Donovan’s ribs make it highly unlikely he’ll be able to play, well, on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. This faced Andy with the threat of his second round pick from Houston, former Conference USA MVP, Kevin Kolb possibly playing while a game still mattered. When Andy was confronted with his biggest fear he sprung into action.

You already know what Baskett looks like so I went with his wife

First we needed …

You’ve waited patiently since the last dropped pass on January 18th. You watched the draft, you listened to trade rumors. You were even surprised by Michael Vick. Everyone was forced to simply wait until next year, again. From the moment the NFC Championship game clock hit zero the entire city of Philadelphia has waited for September 13th at 1:00 pm when the Philadelphia Eagles will take the field against the Carolina Panthers. My advice to you is to soak up this time because this is as good as it gets.

Philadelphia fans love their teams. No matter the sport, game attendance is high. Even the Philadelphia Phantoms, and Soul, have enjoyed a hearty fan following, but they’re not the Eagles. Aside from the soul destroying heartbreak that was the 1993 World Series and the utter elation that was 2008, no team controls Philadelphia’s heart strings like the Eagles. We all groan when you mention Rich Kotite. You can still picture Randall Cunningham leaping over a player into the end zone. Snowballs at Santa Clause, …

According to the Philadelphia Daily News Kyle Kendrick will be getting the start for game one of the Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets double header on Saturday. In the second game you’ll see Pedro Martinez. Jamie Moyer is scheduled to continue filling in for J.A. Happ as he rehabs his strained oblique.

For the casual fan the second game is the one that pops out. Pedro playing his old team is sure to be interesting and could be the final test of how back he really is. To the avid Philadelphia fan all of these matches are interesting. Kendrick, a former Phillies wunderkind pitcher, was a 10 game winner in ’07 and ’08, there were even rumors, started primarily by Brett Myers that he would be traded to Japan. In September of 2008 he lost his job to Happ, the present Phillies wunderkind pitcher, and has since tooled around in AAA for the most part. He’s never been able to get back to the dominant form he had earlier in his career.

There’s …

Saturday September 5th, The Phillies are in Houston playing the Astros and Joe Blanton is poised for his 10th win of the year with Brad Lidge on the mound. Lidge looks dominant against the first batter he faces, quickly getting him out despite whispers of an aggravating blister on the finger of his pitching hand. Then the wheels come off, he proceeds to load the bases with Astros, including former Phils Chris Coste and Michael Bourne before finally giving a bases loaded single to end the game and grab his 7th loss of the season and paving the way to a four game sweep.

Fastforward to Tuesday September 8th, Lidge is now in Washington playing the Nationals. Again after coming out strong he’s loaded the bases. To make matters worse he’s facing a proven home run hitter in Cristian Guzman. Just as it looked that the Phillies were on the precipice of a five game losing streak to two teams with losing records, Ole’ Charlie pulled us …

For the second time in his career A.J. Feeley, an eight year veteran with an average QB rating of 69.0, is no longer an Eagle. He was cut late Sunday to make room for Antonio Dixon, who was picked up off of waivers.

It became likely that Feeley would leave Philadelphia when Michael Vick was signed. This signaled that Andy Reed is still a believer in the mobile quarterback with the threat of a run. This made Kevin Kolb…
