Eagles Rumors & News

After starting the game in a way that most NFL coaches only dream of, the Philadelphia Eagles yet again came up short against a NFC East opponent, putting them 0-3 against the division this year.

On the third play of the game, the Eagles’ Mike Patterson deflected a pass at the line from Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning, intercepting it and running it back to the New York nine yard line.

After an incomplete pass by quarterback Donovan McNabb, the Eagles completed a direct snap to widereceiver DeSean Jackson for a nine yard run for the touchdown. Eagles up 7-0.

That would be the end of good fortune for the Birds. Manning and the Giants came right back to tie the game on a 17-yard pass to Plaxico Burress to cap off a 10-play 80-yard drive.

The Giants would score 17 unanswered points until McNabb connected on a 10-yard pass to Jason Avant. Giants 17 eagles 14.

Both teams would trade field goals before the end of the first half, taking the score to 20-17. Despite the

The Phillies are World Champions of baseball!!!!

Oh, but wait, there are other sports being played still.

One team still playing is the Eagles, who triumphed against the Seahawks Sunday after a rough first quarter.

Seattle went up 6-0 on their first play from scrimmage, a 90-yard pass play to Koren Robinson, the longest play in Seahawks’ history. The offense had serious trouble getting things started in the first quarter, with quarterback Donovan McNabb completing just three of 13 passes for 57 yards.

Then the Eagles shook off the cobwebs. Perhaps they were suffering from the city wide championship hangover. Whatever the reason, the Eagles came out in the second quarter a different team, and never looked back.

The Eagles got on the board when McNabb connected with Reggie Brown on a 22-yard touchdown pass that capped off an 80-yard drive. The offense would strike again just under six minutes later on a 1-yard pass to right guard Todd Herremans. After setting a block, Herremans ran past the line of …

Eagles guard Shawn Andrews will miss at least six weeks after having back surgery on Tuesday, according to team head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins. Watkins also operated on Tra Thomas in 2005.

Andrews suffered a disc herniation in high school in Arkansas and played through it all throughout college and his NFL career. However, the injury was aggravated on an extra point attempt against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.

According to Burkholder, Andrews took a couple of injections in late September but it provided only brief relief. Andrews saw four different specialists, with Wakins being the last.

The recovery time could take anywhere from six weeks to three months, but the Eagles have not yet placed Andrews on IR. Coach Andy Reid says the team is going to evaluate him over the next couple weeks to see how his recovery progresses before they make any decisions.

In the meantime, Max Jean-Gilles will continue to play in Andrews’ stead.

I really like the Eagles chances this week against Bye Week.

Brian Westbrook, Shawn Andrews, Kevin Curtis, and Reggie Brown are all healthy enough to compete.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb should have nothing to be embarassed about. I don’t see any momentum squashing interceptions or weak late game drives to worry about. I think McNabb and the offense will have as good a second half this week as their opponent, if not better.

I am confident we have nothing to worry about from DeSean Jackson in terms of rookie mistakes or overconfident endzone mishaps. This week he knows what’s at stake. He knows he has to have his head in the game and that mistakes will not be tolerated. I will go out on a limb here and predict that Jackson wins the game for the Eagles.

Eagles fans won’t have to worry about having to buy a new television after they threw their dip bowl or small dog through it in frustration over coach Andy Reid’s mind numbing playcalling. …

Star Eagles running back Brian Westbrook played most of Sunday’s loss against the Washington Redskins with two fractured ribs. The news was revealed during coach Andy Reid’s Monday press conference.

When asked whether Westbrook would be able to play next Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, Reid was vague and noncomittal. You’re shocked, I can tell.

“We’ll just have to see,” said Reid. “We’ll see how things go here the next few days. He’s sore.”

Unfortunately, reports from the Eagles’ ultimate weapon are even less encouraging than from the coach.

“It’s kind of similar to the ankle,” Westbrook said. “It’s kind of wait and see. You rehab it. You continue to try to do everything you can to get yourself ready. You go to practice. You watch the tape. You understand your plays. At the end of the day, you have to try to get a feel for what it’s going to feel like.

Westbrook said on his radio show on 950 ESPN that he was in extreme pain and …

After losing to the very average Chicago Bears last Sunday, the Birds look to right the ship against the surprisingly good Washington Redskins.  They almost beat the Bears in Chicagowithout stud multi-tasker Brian Westbrook, dough boy Shawn Andrews, and speedster Kevin Curtis.  No excuses needed though.  The game wouldn’t have even been close had several things happened differently.

First, DeSean Jackson made two rookie mistakes.  He dropped a punt which lead to a Bears TD and ran the wrong route leading to a Donovan McNabb INT.  He is a rookie.  Rookies are dumb.  It happens.  He is certainly electric and is very valuable but he has to eliminate the mistakes.  I would exchange not making two mistakes for one amazing TD catch or return from this guy.  We all mocked Reno Mahe for his lack of explosion but the man never dropped a punt.  I’m just saying…

Second, Andy Reid has to learn the QB sneak.  From my eight years of grade school and high school football experience to my 10+ years of Madden (PS1 and PS2) …

For those people who thought sitting Brian Westbrook would be a good idea last night against the Bears, you got your wish, however, the outcome was a far cry than what had been expected.  Last nights 24-20 loss at the hands of Chicago lie directly at the feet of Westbrook, who was sorely missed during a fourth quarter goal line stand that prevented The Eagles from taking the win and keeping pace in the ultr competitive NFC East.

With the Redskins beating the Cowboys yesterday afternoon, the Eagles are suddenly in last place in the NFC East, a game behind Washington and Dallas, 1 1/2 games behind the defending Super Bowl Champs, NY Giants.

The bears tried giving the game away on several occasions, with 4 turnovers that led to only 6 points for the birds who were held to just 6 points in the second half.

Also missing from the Birds lineup last night was Right Guard Shawn Andrews.  Andres was missed throughout the game, as the Eagles …

In what could only be described as an American League Baseball game, your Philadelphia Eagles took it to the Pittsburgh Steelers 15-6 this past Sunday.  It was one heck of a busy Sunday, mind you.  My thumb got a full workout and needs a bye week already.  Let me run you down what I tried to accomplish on TV this Sunday.  The Eagles were top priority, but right behind them were the Phillies beating up on the Marlins.  Then I realized the great US of A Ryder Cup team was taking it to the Europeans on NBC.  I think, and I may be wrong, but I think that Bloodsport was also playing on Versus.

As for the Birds, well, any win versus a strong AFC team is a good win.  We could have won that game 1-0, not literally of course as 1 point is impossible to get in football, and I would have been happy.  We shut down one of the best running backs in the NFL in Willie Parker and made Ben Rothlisberger look …

Despite having only played three games so far this season, it is not too early to be excited about the way the Eagles have played this season. Quarterback Donovan McNabb looks as good as he ever has, despite being without his top two receivers. Rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson has put the entire league on notice that the Eagles do, in fact, have a serious threat at that position and that they will be just fine without Terrell Owens. After getting shreaded on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys, a game in which they allowed 41 points to the hated rival, the Eagles’ defense, led by the apparently not so old veteran Brian Dawkins, responded this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers by sacking quarterback Ben Roethlisberger eight times, recovering two fumbles, and made one interception. Oh, and they’re the top rushing defense in the National Football League.

After three weeks, the Eagles are first in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game …

After getting beat on several long pass plays to Terrell Owens against the Dallas Cowboys on September 15, it was widely debated whether Eagles’ veteran safety Brian Dawkins had lost a step or two at the ripe old age of 34. The Eagles’ defense as a whole was ravaged by the Cowboys’ potent offense, giving up 41 points on the night.

During the week, B-Dawk gave an impassioned defense of his skills.

“I told you guys - I understand how it works,” said Dawkins. “You get a certain age, every play that I’m not making this year from here on out, it’s going to be the same way - ‘he’s getting old.’ I can’t worry about that.”

As Dawkins has done his entire career, he backed up his words with his play of the field.

After not recording a single sack against Tony Romo, the Eagles defense got to Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger eight times, including six times in the second quarter. At one point, Roethlisberger was sacked on …

1) Dallas:  Record 3-0 (Win vs Packers 27-16):  Last weeks rank: #1:  They won in Green Bay for the first time, but it’s not the same as winning there in December.  Still, they won comfortably, despite a slow start from Romo.

2) New York Giants:  Record 3-0 (Beat the Bengals in OT 26-23) Last weeks rank #2:  Disappointing win here, but give the Bengals credit, they showed what they’re capable of.  Giants stayed with it and finally broke the D down in OT.

3) Philadelphia:  Record 2-1 (Beat Steelers 15-6):  Last weeks rank:  #5:  Lose Westbrook for 3 quarters, Lose McNabb for a series and still win against a tough team.  This is an interesting and possibly the most well rounded.  As long as Westbrook and McNabb stay healthy.  Welcome back Dawk.

4) Denver:  Record 3-0 (Beat the Saints 34-32)  Last weeks rank:  #12:  The league’s new version of the Colts exploded again… and nearly lost again.  The D has issues but the O is pretty sick.

5) Tennessee:  Record 3-0 (Beat Houston 31-12)  Last weeks rank:  #9:  Wow, …
