Eagles Rumors & News

Monday, September 21st, 2009

As if losing 48-22 to the New Orleans Saints wasn’t bad enough, the Eagles appeared to be justified in not picking up running back Brian Westbrook’s option for the 2011 season, as he sprained his surgically repaired right ankle on Sunday.

“It was just sore,” Westbrook said. “I tried to put a little weight on it. Tried to be effective out there on the field. You don’t want to go out there and hurt the team. As far as running, I wanted to make some cuts, and I just wasn’t able to do it.”

The injury to Westbrook was just one of many problems coming out of the Eagles’ home opener. Despite a better than expected first half out of quarterback Kevin Kolb, who was making his first ever NFL start in place of the injured Donovan McNabb, things seemed to simply fall apart for the Eagles after half time.

Headed into the locker room down 17-13 at the half, the game was well within reach. Kolb looked impressive, …

Mecca in all its glory
Most of you reading this would agree that the Philadelphia Eagles are the greatest football team on the planet, ever. Unfortunately many people outside of the City of Brotherly Love have yet to learn this unquestionable truth. To that end some of us must go out amongst the heathens to teach them our West Coast Offensive ways. I’ve successfully survived outside of the Philly area for three years now. I thought it would be helpful to those of you who are planning on going out and spreading the word, or already find yourself far way from Mecca for me to give you some weekly advice based on my trials and tribulations as an Eagles fan wondering in the wilderness.

The first thing you need to do is know the schedule. Not just the weekly TV schedule the entire season schedule. Once it’s announced print that thing out! First of all, having a schedule …

The news that tackle Shawn Andrews is out for the season has solicited a multitude of emotions and reactions from Eagles fans, many of which can be found on his YouTube page.

The reactions range from concern for his health and well being

Look homie I hope you get better. I’m obviously disappointed about whats happend but at the end of the day football is still a game. Everyone criticizing you doesn’t know shit because they’ve probably never played football on any level. Keep your head up and I hope you get back to Pro Bowl form again. I just thought you could use some love right about now instead of nothing but hate.

to pleading with Andrews to come back and play

Shawn, you have Hall of Fame talent as a football player. Whether you like it or not, football is your calling. Please try to get on the football field so …

I’m not buying all this talk from pundits and fans about how the Eagles need to give Kevin Kolb a shot to prove what he can do this Sunday in the home opener against the New Orleans Saints.

Why? Why do we need to give Kolb a chance?

We didn’t draft Kevin Kolb. We didn’t make him the heir apparent to Donovan McNabb. We’re not going to look stupid if Kolb turns out to be a dud. No egg on our face.

Sure, for Andy Reid to prove that he made a smart move when he drafted Kolb in 2007 he needs to start Kolb on Sunday. I get why he and the Eagles’ front office believe that they need to stand behind him.

But as fans, and objective pundits, there shouldn’t be a single person out there saying that Kolb should be the starter against the Saints. Not if you’re first priority is winning football games.

I don’t buy the argument that it’s still early in the season, so we …

What just happened? We’re in week two and we’re already making moves like an over anxious fantasy football team owner. Well Donovan McNabb’s ribs happened and it was the one thing that could foil Andy Reid’s intricate plans. Every team can have 53 people on the active roster and an eight person practice squad. The first person to fall victim to this rule was A.J. Feely, the Carolina Panthers newest back up quarterback.  However the game of musical chairs that was played last night was a bit above and beyond.

First Donovan’s ribs make it highly unlikely he’ll be able to play, well, on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. This faced Andy with the threat of his second round pick from Houston, former Conference USA MVP, Kevin Kolb possibly playing while a game still mattered. When Andy was confronted with his biggest fear he sprung into action.

You already know what Baskett looks like so I went with his wife

First we needed …

The Eagles announced Tuesday that quarterback Michael Vick has been added to the roster, and that wideout Hank Baskett has been waived.

The move allows Vick to practice with the full team despite being ineligible to play in a game until Week 3.

More importantly, the move means that less than 24 hours after the City of Philadelphia gained one Playboy Playmate (Carmella Decesare), it is losing another.

With the release of Baskett comes the end (for now) of Kendra Wilkinson’s time in Philly. The former Playboy Playmate, and girlfriend of Hugh Hefner, is married to Baskett and is currently carrying their first child.

While Baskett attempts to find a new team to flounder around with, he will be able to focus more of his time on his budding acting career, which can be seen Sundays at 10 PM on E! on the Kendra show.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s a preview of what you’ve been missing….

What many of us believed to be inevitable has finally happened. Shawn Andrews has been placed on Injured Reserve to make room for Jeff Garcia, effectively ending his season.

Oddly enough, even though Week 1 already happened, Andrews season is over before it ever started. Bothered by a sore lower back, Andrews missed all of training camp, as well as all four preseason games, and only started practicing with the team a couple weeks ago.

The move comes as a particular blow to the Eagles, as two moves made by the front office this offseason were seen to have been, in large part, to get Andrews in the right state of mind and excited about football again, after he missed considerable time last season due to depression. The Eagles signed Andrews brother Stacey Andrews and his college roommate Jason Peters, both offensive linemen, this offseason.

The move will likely free up a considerable amount of time for Andrews, allowing him to pursue his dream of making seriously bad rap …

The Eagles announced the signing of quarterback Jeff Garcia Monday. He is expected to back up Kevin Kolb on Sunday in the team’s home opener against the New Orleans Saints, since Donovan McNabb is expected to miss the game with a cracked rib.

Garcia played for the Eagles in 2006, and led them to the playoffs after McNabb was injured for several weeks.

Yea, that’s great and all, but the real news of the day is the return of Garcia’s Playboy Playmate wife, Carmella Decesare.

Decesare was Miss April 2003 and Playmate of the Year in 2004. She was featured in the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in the players’ wives feature.

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure, and to help ease the pain of knowing that Kolb is most likely your starting quarterback on Sunday. Yea, you need to see these pictures. It helps, believe me.

(Warning: Not entirely safe for work)…

Here’s a new video from everyone’s favorite non-football playing rapper.

Enjoy.

The injury bug has struck the Eagles again. This time it got the most important player on the roster, quarterback Donovan McNabb, who suffered a cracked rib while rushing for a three-yard touch down in the third quarter of Sunday’s season opener victory against the Carolina Panthers.

After getting tackled in the endzone, McNabb laid on the ground for several minutes before walking off the field on his own power. He immediately headed into to the locker room to get examined by the Eagles trainers. He did eventually return to the field, but did not return to the game. He was seen on the sideline without his pads, at times looking dejected and frustrated, other times he was seen laughing it up with teammates.

“He’s not going to get much sleep these next few days,” said running back Brian Westbrook, who broke a rib last season. “But Donovan’s a tough guy.”

An injured McNabb is nothing new for Eagles fans, but Week 1 is a little earlier than we’ve …

Maybe Sean McDermott’s replacing Jim Johnson as defensive coordinator of the Eagles won’t result in the drop off that many thought it would.

The Eagles trounced the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, 38-10, including five interceptions, five sacks, and a goal line stand with less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles held Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme to just seven completions on 17 attempts for a paltry 73 yards passing. The Eagles intercepted four of Dehlomme’s passes, and sacked him three times. In Dehlomme’s last game, against the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of last year’s playoffs, he gave up a career high five interceptions, bringing his total to nine in two games. Cornerback Sheldon Brown, who spent much of the offseason fighting with the front office over the status of his contract, had two of the team’s five interceptions.

As one person said during the game, apparently Delhomme is French for “turnover.”

The Eagles defense forced two fumbles, and even got in on the …

You’ve waited patiently since the last dropped pass on January 18th. You watched the draft, you listened to trade rumors. You were even surprised by Michael Vick. Everyone was forced to simply wait until next year, again. From the moment the NFC Championship game clock hit zero the entire city of Philadelphia has waited for September 13th at 1:00 pm when the Philadelphia Eagles will take the field against the Carolina Panthers. My advice to you is to soak up this time because this is as good as it gets.

Philadelphia fans love their teams. No matter the sport, game attendance is high. Even the Philadelphia Phantoms, and Soul, have enjoyed a hearty fan following, but they’re not the Eagles. Aside from the soul destroying heartbreak that was the 1993 World Series and the utter elation that was 2008, no team controls Philadelphia’s heart strings like the Eagles. We all groan when you mention Rich Kotite. You can still picture Randall Cunningham leaping over a player into the end zone. Snowballs at Santa Clause, …

  • Quote of the Day

    • “I’m leaving on a good note. I got some experience. I’ll go down there, get that pitch count up and get my arm ready for the season. I’m actually excited about it. It was all at once (the new delivery). It was kind of shaky a little bit at the beginning, but I guess that’s why the Minor Leagues are there.”
