Two more Eagles’ players were bitten by the injury bug at training camp Monday.

Backup quarterback Kevin Kolb suffered what is being called an MCL sprainin his left knee after left tackle King Dunlap stepped on his left leg, causing Kolb to lose his balance. Kolb limped off the field, was examined by team trainers, and eventually headed into the locker room.

I’m OK,” Kolb told the Inquirer after he sprained his left knee. “It’s no big deal. I’m going to see Pete.”

Kolb headed back to Philadelphia later this morning for an MRI examination and a visit with team physician Peter DeLuca, were it was learned that he suffered the MCL sprain. He will not play in Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.

Defensive end Trent Cole will also miss Thursday’s preseason game after he suffered an AC sprain in his left shoulder, also during Monday’s morning practice.

“I’m all right,” Cole said. “It’s just a bruise.”

The Eagles announced after this morning’s practice that wideout Brandon Robinson had been …

The Eagles have suffered another set back, as rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram tore his ACL, again. Ingram tore the same ACL, in his left leg, during practice last August. According to reports, he has reinjured it and is expected to miss the upcoming season.

“Obviously it’s a shame for the kid,” said coach Andy Reid. “He’s a great kid and he’s worked very hard.”

It’s a shame for the Eagles as well, as the loss leaves them dangerously low at tight-end, with starter Brent Celek, seldom used veteran Matt Schobel, and undrafted rookie Eugene Bright.

The injury occured on Tuesday, but the Eagles’ coaches did not believe it to be serious because Ingram did not appear to be seriously banged up.

“It happened during goal-line practice,” Reid said. “It wasn’t one of those things that just killed him when it happened.”

The Eagles drafted the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Ingram in the fifth round of this year’s draft with the hope that he would develop into a legitimate …

Today is a somber day in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Eagles have cancelled their workouts at Lehigh to attend the private memorial service of Jim Johnson, the team’s longtime defensive coordinator, at Lincoln Financial Field. Johnson meant a lot to a lot of people, both inside and out of the Eagles organization. A great example of that was chronicled in a piece by the Philadelphia Daily News’ Paul DOmowitch about how Johnson helped a young man from the streets of D.C. when he was defensive coordinator at Drake University. [Link]

Tonight the Phillies will honor the late, great Harry Kalas by inducting him into the Phillies Wall of Fame in Ashburn Alley. The ceremony will begin at 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet and MLB.com. The plaque will be unveiled by former Phillies reliever and current radio colorman Larry Andersen. On hand for the ceremony will be Harry’s three sons – Todd, Brad and Kane – as well as fellow …

The dominoes continue to fall for Andy Reid and his Philadelphia Eagles. In the span of a week, Reid has lost his defensive coordinator, and one of his best friends, to cancer, he lost his staring middle linebacker to a torn ACL suffered during an exhibition practice, he lost his temper and dignity when he tried to punish the local media for reporting on the injury to his middle linebacker, and now it is being reported by the Allentown Morning Call that defensive end Juqua Thomas was arrested Tuesday night on the campus of Lehigh University for possession of marijuana.

According to the Morning Call, Thomas was taken into custody during a traffic stop around 12:30 AM near the Eagles’ training camp at Lehigh. Lower Saucon Township police said that Parker was the passenger of a car stopped for a traffic violation and was in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Thomas was arraigned and committed to Northampton County Prison under $1000 bail. He …

The Eagles signed linebacker Matt Wilhelm Tuesday to fill the void left by injured middle-linebacker Stewart Bradley, who was diagnosed with a torn ACL Monday and will likely miss the remainder of the season.

Wilhelm, a two-year starter with the Chargers, was released by San Diego a few weeks ago. He is expected to compete for the middle-linebacker position with Joe Mays and Omar Gaither, although he is not realistically expected to make the team.

The Eagles also signed defensive end Jason Babin, a former first-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2004. Babin, who has also played for Seattle and Kansas City, has 15 career sacks in five seasons.

The team also released three players in order to make room for Wilhelm, Babin, and rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin, who signed a five-year, $15.5 million deal Monday. The Eagles released defensive tackle Jervonte Jackson, cornerback Courtney Robinson and wide receiver Marcus Thigpen.

Eagles’ linebacker Stewart Bradley left the field limping Sunday night during the team’s Flight Night practice at Lincoln Financial Field.

Monday morning it was learned that he had suffered a torn ACL. That prompted several reporters to call his cell phone in an attempt to determine what the full story was. The reporters were unable to speak with Bradley, getting Eagles’ head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder instead. Calls to Bradley’s agent, Eric Metz, proved fruitless as well.

It was later learned that Bradley was scheduled to have an MRI later that day. He is going to have what is likely season ending surgery.

The problem is that apparently no one was supposed to talk to Bradley, his agent, or any other members of the Eagles. Apparently there was a pact that all reporters signed, unbeknownst to them, when coach Andy Reid started in 1999 that he would disclose all injuries and that they were to not talk to anyone else about them. That didn’t happen, …

The wait is over.

The Eagles and rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin agreed to a five-year deal late Monday night. The deal is worth $15.5 million, with $9.5 million guaranteed, according to Jim Steiner, Maclin’s agent.

The agreement ends a nine-day holdout by Maclin in which he missed 13 crucial practices. While it was not known when the rookie would report to camp, it is likely to be as early as Tuesday morning, as Maclin has been in the Philadelphia area while the negotiations were ongoing.

Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb commented Monday after practice that he did not believe Maclin’s absence was that big of a deal.

“He’s a rookie,” McNabb said. “You all act like he’s been in the league for five or six years. You don’t know what he’s going to do anyway. All we ask of him is to catch the ball and get up field and score. That’s all we ask. I think for him, at this point, it’s a business aspect of …

Brian Seltzer of 950 ESPN Radio in Philadelphia is reporting that Eagles linebacker Stewart Bradley suffered a torn ACL during the team’s Flight Night fundraiser practice Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles have not confirmed the injury yet, but if it is true, Bradley would most likely miss the entire 2009-2010 season.

The Philadelphia Daily News contaced Bradley’s agent, Eric Metz, who did not confirm, nor deny, the report.

“You’ll have to talk to him about that,” Metz said.

Then the Daily News called Bradley himself, but his phone was answered by Rick Burkholder, the Eagles’ head athletic trainer, who said that all information would come from head coach Andy Reid, who is scheduled to speak with reporters at 2:45 Monday afternoon at Lehigh.

Bradley limped off the field during Sunday’s scrimmage and was examined on the sidelines by Burkholder. He is scheduled to have an MRI today.

The loss of Bradley means that the Eagles will turn to Omar Gaither or Joe Mays as the starting middle linebacker. …

During the first day of full training camp several Eagles suffered injuries, sidelining them for portions of the workouts.

Shawn Andrews (back), roommate Jason Peters (quad), and cornerback Asante Samuel (hamstring) all had to sit out Thursday afternoon’s workout after suffering injuries during the day’s earlier workouts in the brutal Lehigh Valley heat.

The three of them join three other Eagles on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Andrews, Peters and Samuel join Brian Westbrook (ankle), Victor Abiamiri (pec), and Trevor Laws (hamstring). Players can be listed on the PUP list only on the first day of training camp, but can be removed at any time.

Another casualty from Thursday’s workouts was wideout Kevin Curtis, who suffered a thigh contusion when he collided with safety Quintin Demps.

In light of the injury to Samuel, cornerbacks Sheldon Brown and Ellis Hobbs have been practicing as the right and left corners, as opposed to both practicing at the right corner, both their natural position. Since there is no clear display of who …

All members of the Eagles have arrived for training camp. All but rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin that is.

Maclin is the only remaining Eagles rookie to not yet sign a contract, although it something that is currently being negotiated by his agent Jim Steiner and team consultant Andrew Brandt. The 19th overall pick in this year’s draft is in the Philadelphia area, able to arrive to training camp at a moment’s notice if a deal is struck.

“We’re still trying to find common ground,” Brandt said today when asked if any progress had been made.

“I’d normally talk about the players that are here,” offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. “However, in general, it’s my experience with rookies that help a ball club – or helped the club that I’ve been on – they’ve missed very, very little [time]. It’s just a big advantage to be at every practice.”

Clearly, the Eagles want him here as soon as possible, especially now that all the veterans have reported.

Speaking of veterans, disgruntled cornerback Sheldon Brown arrived, as promised, a little after 6:00 …

Several current and former members of the Eagles reacted to the passing of Jim Johnson, the team’s longtime defensive coordinator. Johnson finally succumbed after a six month battle against melanoma. He was 68.

Brian Dawkins, former safety and emotional leader of the Eagles:

“This is a sad, sad day for myself and my Philadelphia family. Jim was tailor-made to coach in Philadelphia. He was a tough coach who wasn’t afraid to let you know how he was feeling, but at the same time, he cared about us deeply. He was an absolute blessing to me with the way he used me on the football field and allowed me to show my God-given ability. His confidence in me meant so much — he looked to create new defenses each week to utilize my talents. I have been praying for him every day, and those prayers won’t stop now. I’ll be praying for his family and their comfort during this difficult time.”

Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner:

“Jim Johnson …

Jim Johnson, the longtime defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, passed away Tuesday after a six-month battle with cancer. He was 68.

Johnson stepped down from his position with the Eagles a couple weeks ago after treatments for his melanoma sapped much of his strength. Assistant coordinator Sean McDermott was officially named as the team’s defensive coordinator earlier this week.

A news conference is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Andy Reid and Joe Banner.

Here is a statement from the Eagles:

The Philadelphia Eagles are saddened to announce Jim Johnson has passed away this afternoon at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A veteran of 22 years as an NFL assistant, Johnson is regarded as one of the top defensive masterminds in National Football League history. Over the last decade, he gained a great deal of notoriety as the orchestrator of the renowned Eagles defense. His aggressive style kept Philadelphia at or near the top of the NFL in nearly every major defensive category since joining …
