The National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) announced Tuesday that Pat Morris of the Philadelphia KiXX was named as the NISL Defender of the Year. It is the second such honor of his 10-year career.
Morris, a four time all-star, was also named to the All-NISL First Team, marking the seventh time in his career that he has received such an accolade.
Morris led the KiXX in scoring with 51 points on six three-point goals (1st NISL), 11 two-point goals, and 11 assists. Those 51 points were third best in the league.
In addition to leading the KiXX in points, Morris broke several milestones, including 500 blocks (by far the most in team history), and 400 points.
Morris, a Northeast Catholic and Philadelphia University native, played in all 18 games this season, recording three hat tricks. He was named the Defender of the Month for the month of December, in which he 17 points and nine blocks in five games.
The KiXX improved to 8-6 on the season with an overtime victory over the Rockford Rampage on Sunday. They are now 1-1 in overtime this season.
The win puts them into a tie with the idle Monterrey La RaZa for second place in the National Indoor Soccer League standings.
The Rampage went up early on a two-point powerplay goal by Rockford’s Matthew Stewart at 2:51 of the first quarter. The Rampage increased their lead to 4-0 on an unassisted goal by former KiXX infielder Gary Brooks at 8:37.
With one minute remaining in the quarter, the KiXX’s Ricardinho, the NISL Player of the Week, brought Philly within two.
Rockford responded right out of the gate in the second quarter on a two-point goal to put the Rampage up 6-2.

Philadelphia, PA, January 29, 2009 – The Philadelphia KiXX announced today that online registration for the 2009 Philadelphia KiXX Summer Kamp program will be available beginning on Sunday, February 1, 2009. The summer camp program, which opens in mid-June and runs through late August, is designed for boys and girls (ages four to 14) with approximately 40 locations offered throughout the Tri-State area. The 2009 program offers five different camp options: day, evening, tot, travel team, and goalkeeper-specific. The Philadelphia Kixx, Philly’s own indoor soccer team, face off against Monterrey La RaZa this Sunday in one of the final events ever to be held at the historic Wachovia Spectrum.
The Kixx look to rebound off a tough lost against the first place Baltimore Blast this past Sunday. The 6,759 fans in attendance put the Kixx over the 1.5 million mark for its 13 year career at the Spectrum.
